TSB launches investigation into Irvine train derailment

IRVINE, AB – The trains starting rolling through Irvine at 11 a.m. sharp Saturday morning, less than 24 hours following a train derailment in the hamlet located east of Medicine Hat that saw nearly 200 residents forced to evacuate.
The train derailed just after 3 p.m. Friday with an emergency evacuation order issued for residents of Irvine shortly after the incident.
The Transportation Safety Board announced Saturday morning that they will be investigating the derailment.
Crews worked throughout the night to secure the scene which involved potentially toxic chemicals in the railcars, lifting the evacuation order late Friday evening.
