Ironman Loren Nelson looking to ‘peak at the right time’

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Competing as a professional triathlete is one of the most physically and mentally demanding sports in the world.

Medicine Hat’s Loren Nelson embraces the challenge with a smile.

The 26-year-old is discovering what it means to be an Ironman, having reached the midway mark of his second pro campaign on the 70.3 circuit.

Nelson, who spends much of his daytime managing the local dealership City Chrysler, has raced all over North America, including most recently in Santa Rosa, CA. That’s where the Hatter produced his best finish of the season, crossing the line 33rd overall.

In Santa Rosa, Nelson gained valuable experience racing among the lead pack, which is what he says his training is geared towards.

Mitch Bach of CHAT Sports caught up with Nelson to hear more about his gruelling training regime, what he’s focussing on as his season continues, and the improvements he’s made over the course of the last year.
