Mavs back in win column, stomp Prospects 8-2

EDMONTON, AB — Collin Klingensmith and PJ Garcia had a Wednesday night to remember.

Klingensmith went three-for-three at the dish, Garcia batted in four runs, and the Medicine Hat Mavericks returned to the win column with an 8-2 redemption-fuelled victory over the Edmonton Prospects at Remax Field.

It comes one night after the Prospects propelled to a 9-5 victory over the reigning league champions.

Medicine Hat’s lead was generated through 5.5 innings before officials called off the rest of the match due to inclement weather.

Nolan Rattai and Austin Sojka eached collected two hits, and Colton Wright and Tito Jones matched Klingensmith’s run total at two.

Jaymon Cervantes lasted all five innings, earning his third straight victory and fouth of the campaign. The returner allowed four hits and two earned runs with four strike-outs.

Medicine Hat earns some much-needed breathing room in the WCBL’s West Division, now two games up on Edmonton for third place. However, the Mavs remain 1.5 games behind the Lethbridge Bulls, who also won Wednesday night.

Medicine Hat returns to action on Thursday, taking a southbound drive to Swift Current to battle the 57s at Mitchell Field.
