Mavericks defeated by Swift Current 7-4

SWIFT CURRENT, SASK. – The Medicine Hat Mavericks winning streak was snapped in Swift Current Friday night.

The Swift Current 57s topped the Mavericks 7-4 at Mitchell Field, ending the Mavericks winning streak at five games.

The Mavericks went up 4-3 in the top of the seventh inning, but the 57s responded with four runs in the seventh to take a late lead that held for the remainder of the game.

Breyden Eckout and Tanner Holen each had two RBIs through the game for Swift Current.

Taylor Wright, Nolan Rattai and Sal Rodriguez all batted in a run for the Mavericks.

Garrett Hawkins was credited with the win on the mound for the 57s. He pitched one inning, allowing one walk and striking out three batters.

Derek Eubanks took the loss for the Mavericks. He pitched one full inning and two-thirds of a second inning, allowing four runs, four errors and three hits. Eubanks struck out one batter during the game.

The Western Canadian Baseball League hosts its All-Star game on Sunday in Edmonton. Rattai is among the Mavericks named to Team West during the All-Star Game, along with pitcher Flynn Ridley and infielder Austin Sojka.

The Mavericks return to action on Tuesday, travelling to Okotoks to take on the Dawgs at 7:05 p.m.
