SUFFIELD, AB — The British Army Training Unit Suffield is moving to the second phase of live-fire training exercises starting today.

Prairie Storm 2 began Friday and is set to run until August 5, with military activities running intermittently, during both the day and night during the season.

If you live, work or travel near the base, you may see weapons effects, such as light flashes, and hear loud noises from the exercises.

Unauthorized persons are not allowed to enter the training area and trespassing is strictly forbidden, a release from the base says.

CFB Suffield says soldiers may also need to cross the South Saskatchewan River during the training programs.

Residents wishing to use the portion of the river which passes through the base must call Range Control at 403-544-4310 to confirm dates where training activities are not taking place.

CFB Suffield is also reminding people to not pick up any stray ammunition that may be found near the base. If you find an object that you believe is explosive, contact local police to arrange disposal.
