Kemp to join Rangers development camp after going undrafted

NEW YORK, NY – Brett Kemp’s dreams of the NHL level took a hit on Saturday being passed over in the 2019 NHL Draft, but he will have another shot at impressing big league brass this week.

Kemp has been named to the 37-man roster for the New York Rangers’ prospect development camp as a free agent invite, the second year in a row he has been named to an NHL rookie camp.

Last summer while a member of the Edmonton Oil Kings, the 19-year-old Kemp attended Vegas Golden Knights development camp alongside his future Tigers teammate Ryan Chyzowski.

Ranked 171st among North American skaters ahead of this year’s draft, Kemp was not selected through seven rounds.

This after posting a career-best season in the WHL split between Medicine Hat and Edmonton, piling up 33 goals and 60 points in 64 contests.

Danish netminder Mads Søgaard was the lone Tiger taken in this year’s draft class, selected in the second round 37th overall by the Ottawa Senators.

Kemp will get the opportunity to play alongside second-overall pick Kaapo Kakko and his former Oil Kings teammate Matthew Robertson at Rangers rookie camp.

Rangers development camp will begin on Monday and run through the week.
