Motz and CAPP react to pipeline approval

Medicine Hat, AB – Medicine Hat– Cardston—Warner MP, Glen Motz is critical of today’s Trans Mountain announcement.

“Approving it for the third time is meaningless in my opinion. I guess the big question is, that everybody is asking, why approve it?” Motz said, calling from Ottawa. “You obviously approved it when you gave them $4.5 billion to buy when we bought it with tax payer money.”

Justin Trudeau’s government has approved the pipeline twice, in 2016 and 2019. Motz says that by buying the pipeline, that was a third approval.

Motz continued saying that he isn’t convinced that construction will actually start this summer.

“Not a single ounce of dirt has been moved under this government. And as you know they have cost us billions and billions of dollars in economic activity.” He said. “And you know, the decision today by cabinet really doesn’t get us any closer to having this vital project built, and job creating. A job approved, it gets us no closer than we were two and a half years ago.”

Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers CEO and president Tim McMillan doesn’t share the same feeling.

“I am confident. I think that the environment in Canada today is far more conscious of the pressures that are trying to stop energy infrastructure. We’ve seen the awareness of Canadians of these projects rise. We’ve seen the support of Canadians rise poll after poll.”

McMillan says that with this pipeline, it shows the world that Canada is open for business
