AHS hosts safety day for Redcliff students

Redcliff, AB – Accidents are the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 1 to 34 here in Canada

That’s why Alberta Health Services hosted “Redcliff Safety Days” to help teach elementary school kids about how to stay safe and mange risks

Kids in grade one through six from Margaret Wooding and Isabel F. Cox School visited the arena in Redcliff, going station to station to learn about different aspects of safety in their community.

Some stations included Canadian Pacific Railway police to talk train safety, Towerview Ranch who spoke about farming equipment, and internet safety at the public library.

Lisa Doyle, health promotions facilitator, says that the main goal was for kids to learn about risk management and also to feel familiar with emergency responders.

“The event is basically an opportunity for them to go to a variety of different stations and learn something new about how to stay safe and healthy within the community.” She said. “For example at the paramedic station, they are learning what would happen if an ambulance does have to come visit them so that they are not scared.”

AHS also had a station at the playground across the street to learn about being aware of their surroundings and possible debris like needles or glass.
