VIDEO: Desjardins back behind Tigers bench as coach and general manager

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A familiar face will be back behind the Medicine Hat Tigers bench this fall.

The team confirmed during a news conference Friday morning that Willie Desjardins will once again be the head coach and general manager of the Tigers.

Desjardins will be replacing Shaun Clouston, who has been head coach since 2010. The team and Clouston mutually agreed to part ways on Thursday. Clouston began as an assistant coach under Desjardins in 2003.

Desjardins was head coach from 2002-2010. During his tenure, the Tigers won the WHL championship twice, in 2004 and 2007. He coached the Vancouver Canucks from 2014-2017, and was recently the interim head coach of the Los Angeles Kings for the 2018-19 season. Desjardins also coached the Canadian men’s hockey team in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, winning a bronze medal.

The Tigers 50th season begins in September.
