Tigers conclude orientation camp by locking up prospect Glover

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Cayden Glover’s squad wasn’t able to capture the Tigers orientation camp championship trophy on Sunday, but he leaves Medicine Hat with something more valuable.

Glover became the second Tigers prospect of the weekend to ink his standard player agreement, making him eligible to make the jump to the WHL in a year and a half.

“It feels amazing, it’s a huge honour,” said Glover. “I’m really happy, I just can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

A second-round pick of the Tigers earlier this month, Glover torched the Winnipeg Bantam AAA league with 47 goals and 66 points in just 36 games with the Brandon AAA Wheat Kings.

Glover put his elite shot on display over the weekend at the Family Leisure Centre, something that fellow Tigers prospect and first round pick Oasiz Wiesblatt made note of.

“It’s huge, he has a heck of a shot,” said Wiesblatt. “It’s amazing, he’s going to be a great Tiger I can already tell.”

Tigers head coach and general manager Sean Clouston was on hand for the prospect evaluation and added it was an easy decision to lock up the Brandon product ahead of his 16-year-old season.

“He’s got speed, shoots the puck, real good around the net, put up big numbers this past season,” said Clouston. “I really liked his energy, got to know him and his family a little bit over the weekend, like his personality. So, real excited to get him and Oasiz signed this weekend.”

Glover’s signing comes just days after the Tigers inked Wiesblatt, who helped Team Black to a 17-8 victory over Team White to close out the orientation camp.

Hitting the ice for the first time with a Tigers crest on his chest, Wiesblatt said he learned quickly what the team’s culture and expectations were all about.

“They want to win, I could tell that by the coaches and the staff,” he said. “I mean, they came out with open arms and I like that. I can’t wait to come back.”

Over the summer Wiesblatt is expecting to keep up his training with Crash Conditioning in Calgary while working on his basketball game with his three brothers, while Glover will be focusing on improving his overall game.

“It shows me what I need to work on and how my summer is supposed to be,” said Glover. “I need to work a lot on getting better and making my training camp a lot better than this one.”

The duo of Glover and Wiesblatt join a potent grouping of Tigers prospects including Cole Sillinger, Garin Bjorklund, and Dru Krebs.

A growing list that Clouston said is setting the stage for the team’s core over the next three seasons and beyond.

“It’s a ways out there, but there’s some talented hockey players that will look real good on our roster next year, the year after, and the year after that,” he said.

Tigers prospects and returning players will regroup in Medicine Hat in August for training camp ahead of the 2019-20 WHL season.
