ALERT charges three following drug trafficking investigation

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team has arrested and charged two men and one woman following a drug trafficking investigation in Medicine Hat and Brooks.

According to ALERT, the arrests took place on February 22, following traffic stops in Medicine Hat and Brooks.

Police seized 521 grams of methamphetamine, a loaded handgun, brass knuckles and $830 cash proceeds of crime.

The total estimated value of the seizure was $32,000.

ALERT says the gun seized was a Glock .40 calibre handgun with its serial number filed off. Officers will complete ballistics testing and analysis on the gun to see if it was involved in any other crimes.

Aron Horvath, 37, has been charged with eight firearms related offences, along with trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime.

James Benard, 26, is charged with trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, possession of a prohibited weapon, and three counts of breach of probation.

Devon Koehle, 19, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and breach of recognizance.
