PRIDDIS, Alta. – RCMP say a two-year-old boy has died after falling into an underground sewage tank in a rural area southwest of Calgary.

Police say they were called to a home near Priddis this afternoon along with fire crews and emergency responders.

They say the boy was removed from the tank and flown by air ambulance to Calgary Children’s Hospital, but did not survive.

Fatima Khawaja, a spokeswoman for STARS air ambulance, says the boy was in critical, life-threatening condition when ambulance personnel dropped him off at the hospital.

CTV Calgary says police suspect the boy had lifted the tank’s lid and accidentally fell inside.

Priddis is a hamlet in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
