Firefighters say regular inspection helps keep equipment safe for winter fires
MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Fire Service says keeping their equipment in proper working order helps ensure they’re able to fight all fires, regardless of the temperature outside.
Michael Arnold, a firefighter with the Medicine Hat fire service, says the winter season presents a number of difficulties for firefighters, including increased trip hazards from water freezing while extinguishing fires. In addition, the cold temperatures can also have an impact on equipment.
“When we’re on scene when it’s colder out, what we definitely want to do is make sure our lines are not left closed,” he said. “If we charge a line, we’ll want to actually keep it trickling at least so it doesn’t freeze up.
