MEDICINE HAT, AB – No worries about muddy clothes at the Medicine Hat Drag Strip on Saturday afternoon, as the annual ‘Mud Bog’ was held in front of hundreds of spectators.

Fans packed the grandstand to see trucks from across Alberta rev up their engines and speed through a muddy trench.

Mud bog driver and Seven Persons resident Paul Rafa said it was an exceptionally run weekend by the Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association.

“The pit is excellent, the crowd is excellent, the turnout was really good,” said Paul. “Medicine Hat puts on one of the best mud bogs, and it’s a really good turnout.”

Many of the drivers participate in the Chinook Mud Racing circuit, who make stops all over the province showing off the power of their trucks.

This weekend was a family affair for the Rafa’s, as Paul’s daughter Tylene was able to ride in the passenger seat at their home track.

She said mud bogging is more than just driving a truck through a muddy trench, it’s a chance for her family to spend time together.

“It’s an indescribable feeling,” said Tylene. “It makes me proud that we are able to do it as a family, and that this is how we spend our time, and it’s great.”

This was the ninth consecutive year that Medicine Hat has hosted a stop on the Chinook Mud Bog schedule.
