Seven Persons Creek experiencing high water flows

CYPRESS COUNTY, AB — High water levels have been reported once again in Seven Persons Creek.

Alberta Emergency Alert issued the advisory shortly after 10 a.m. on Friday, noting the creek is experiencing high water levels as a result of increases in upstream flow.

This week, the St. Mary’s River Irrigation District began releasing water from the Murray Reservoir earlier this week to help mitigate overland flooding in southern Alberta.

As a result of the increased flow in the creek, the water could spill onto the banks in low-lying areas.

Several trails near the creek remain closed as a safety precaution. Residents are reminded to stay away from the banks, as they could be unsafe.

Residents are also reminded to move machinery and equipment out of areas expected to see flooding.

An earlier release on Friday said high flows would reach Medicine Hat in the afternoon, but it was removed as of 11:50 p.m.
