City closes trails near Seven Persons Creek as precaution

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The City of Medicine Hat has taken a precautionary step and have closed walking trails along Seven Persons Creek.

The closures are temporary, and include several stretches that are adjacent or over the creek, including the Kin Coulee south tunnel, Dunmore Road, Scholten Hill and Highway 41 A. Barricades will be in place until the closures are lifted.

The closures come as the St. Mary’s River Irrigation District announced efforts to manage reservoir and waterway levels due to overland flooding in parts of southern Alberta. One of the efforts includes increasing flow from the Murray Reservoir. The creek will likely see water levels near or at bankfull levels.
