Stella Artois announces voluntary recall of bottled beer

Apr 2, 2018 | 4:55 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Beer drinkers should check their fridges if they drink Stella Artois, as the company has announced a voluntary recall of select packages in the U.S. and Canada.

The recall affects select packages containing 11.2 ounce bottles that may contain particles of glass. It applies to six packs, 12-packs, 18-packs, 24-packs and individual bottles in Best of Belgium multi-packs in the U.S. and Canada.

The company says the glass particles in the beer are the result of a glass packaging flaw. The bottles were produced at a third-party production facility.

Stella Artois believes the number of potentially affected bottles is less than 1 per cent sold in North America, but made the recall “as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of its consumers,” a news release reads.

The recall does not affect Stella Artois in cans or on draught.

The production codes for Canadian bottles impacted by the recall are attached in the above photo. The best before dates range from February to September 2018.

Consumers are advised not to consume or allow others to consume the potentially affected product.

Consumers with potentially affected bottles withing the scope of the recall are eligible for reimbursement. More details about the recall can be found here.
