Rattlers lose first game at CCAA Women’s Basketball Championship

SACKVILLE, NB — The Medicine Hat College Rattlers will be fighting for a chance to play for the bronze medal at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Championship.

Taking on the host Mount Allison University Mounties, the Rattlers fell behind in the first half, and could not close the gap, losing defeated 61-49 in their first game Thursday afternoon.

Kiersten Mangold led the Mounties with 20 points, while teammate Sarah McGeachy scored 12 during the game.

Kennedy Werre led the Rattlers in scoring with 15 points through the game.

With the loss, the Rattlers are out of gold medal contention, but still have a chance to come away with a bronze medal.

The Rattlers are back in action Friday at 3 p.m. Atlantic Daylight Time (Noon Mountain Standard Time), playing the loser of the game between the Dawson College Blues and the Capilano University Blues Thursday night in the bronze medal quarter-finals.

The tournament runs until Saturday.
