MEDICINE HAT, AB — Mark Rassell joined elite company on Friday night.

The Tigers captain scored his 50th goal of the season, a first for the Orange and Black in three years, paving the way to a 6-4 Medicine Hat Tigers victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings at the Canalta Centre.

Defenceman Dave Quenneville was influential in the win, adding to a WHL leading point total with four assists. The 19-year-old New York Islanders prospect is now up to 78 points this season to lead all blue-liners in the league.

Ryan Chyzowski, Elijah Brown, Jaeger White, Josh Williams and James Hamblin also scored for the Tigers, who complete the series sweep over Edmonton 6-0 with the victory. Brown added a pair of helpers to record a career-high three points on the night. Linus Nassen also pitched in with two assists.

Michael Bullion recorded his 19th victory in the blue paint, stopping 27 Oil Kings shots.

David Kope, Ethan Cap, Colton Kehler, and Conner McDonald found the net for Edmonton, who are riding a four-game losing streak.

Discipline and power play were key factors in the Tigers fourth win in five games. They went 3/5 on the man-advantage, and held the Oil Kings to just one unsuccessful power play.

Rassell joins a short list of Tigers forwards who’ve achieved the feet of a 50-goal season. The last to do it was former captain Cole Sanford in the 2014-15 campaign. Of the 50 goals, Rassell’s scored five against Edmonton this year.

With the Hurricanes loss to Red Deer, Medicine Hat now holds an eight point lead in the Central Division. The Tigers can clinch their second consecutive banner Saturday night, but only with a victory in Red Deer along with a ‘Canes loss to the Regina Pats.
