MEDICINE HAT, AB — A former RCMP officer scheduled to go to trial on a sexual assault charge later this month had his trial pushed back to the summer.

Elliot Teed, 32, appeared in the Medicine Hat Court of Queen’s Bench via CCTV from New Brunswick, where he currently resides.

The court heard Teed’s trial, scheduled to begin March 19 in Medicine Hat, has now been moved to June 18-22. A pre-trial conference was scheduled on March 1.

Teed was charged in April 2016 with one count of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust following a traffic stop near Bow Island in February 2015.

He was ordered to stand trial following a preliminary hearing last year. Details from the hearing are under a publication ban.

Teed told the court that he has applied to a lawyer in Lethbridge to represent him during the trial, as his RCMP appointed lawyer resigned from the file.

Teed, who was suspended from his duties following the alleged incident, has since resigned from the RCMP.
