EDMONTON, AB — A seniors’ housing project in Oyen in one of the seven projects receiving a boost in provincial funding.

The provincial government announced $1.4 million in funding for seven affordable housing projects across the province. Oyen’s Aging in Community rural pilot project will be receiving $100,000, as part of the Provincial Affordable Housing Strategy.

“Everyone should have a safe and affordable home,” said Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Seniors and Housing, in a news release. “Our government is making life better for Albertans by investing in projects that will create more housing and improve existing homes for those who need it the most.”

Other projects approved for planning include Parkview Village and a replacement for Spruce Cliff Downs in Calgary, with both projects receiving $250,000. Other projects receiving $250,000 include Piyami Lodge in Picture Butte, Silver Willow Lodge in Nanton and various projects in Fort Saskatchewan.

The Metis Urban Housing Corporation in Edmonton will also be receiving $100,000 in funding.

Housing proposals are submitted to the ministry’s office, and funds are handed out depending on the community’s needs.
