MEDICINE HAT, AB — Mason Shaw took to the ice at the Canalta Centre Thursday afternoon during Medicine Hat Tigers practice.

Wearing a yellow no-contact jersey, Shaw skated several laps on the ice at the Canalta Centre by himself. It’s the first time he’s been on skates at his home rink, and the first time he was in full equipment since September.

“It felt really good to be back out there, and I felt good out there today,” he said during media availability following the skate.

Shaw has been on the sidelines after tearing his ACL at Minnesota Wild training camp in September. A couple of weeks ago, he was cleared by doctors to resume skating.

“You start to see some steps, kind of, to move forward to play again when you get the skates back on,” he said. “It actually felt better than i thought it would, so that’s a positive.”

Shaw will likely remain out of the lineup for the regular season, however, he’s still hoping to be 100 per cent come the playoffs.

“When I get cleared to play, that’s up to Minnesota’s discretion,” he said. “I’ll be going back down there sometime in March, and hopefully that’s a timetable where I’ll be able to play again this year.”
