Extreme cold warning in effect for Medicine Hat & surrounding areas

MEDICINE HAT, AB. – Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Medicine Hat and surrounding areas.

Wind chill values are reported to be near minus 40 and are expected to continue through out the morning.

Environment Canada said there is an increase risk to young children, older adults, people with chronic illness and those working outdoors. They recommend limiting exposure and taking frequent breaks to warm up.

Extreme cold warnings are issued by Environment Canada when the temperatures or wind chill increase the risk of frostbite or hypothermia with exposure to the outdoors.

Environment Canada would also like to remind pet owners to be conscious of the time pets spend outdoors in the cold weather. 

The extreme cold warning is in effect for the following areas:

Co. of Newell near Patricia

Co. of Newell near Tilley and Rolling Hills

Cypress Co. near Bowell and Redcliff

Cypress Co. near Dunmore and Woolchester
