Fiery crash temporarily closes QEII Highway

LEDUC, AB— A fiery crash involving a semi temporarily shut down both lanes of the QEII Highway, but an overpass remains closed as police continue to investigate.

RCMP responded to the collision at 10:45 a.m. The semi, which was travelling south, went off the highway and struck the support structure for the Highway 616 overpass. The semi caught fire following the collision.

The driver was taken to an Edmonton hospital via ground ambulance. The extent of his injuries remains unknown.

The QEII has re-opened in both lanes, but Highway 616 remains closed.

The investigation is ongoing.
