MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Tigers could have one of their star rookies back in the lineup fairly soon.

Josh Williams has been on the sidelines since November after getting hit from behind during practice at the World World U17 Hockey Challenge with Team Canada Red.

The 16-year-old has been making progress since his injury, and is now taking part in practice in a non-contact jersey, and has been upgraded to day-to-day.

“I’m getting close,” said Williams on Tuesday. “I may be starting (full) practice this week, so hopefully I’ll be back as soon as possible.”

Williams says he is feeling no pain right now, and is focusing on regaining his strength.

Tigers head coach and general manager Shaun Clouston says the team is getting close to getting Williams back to full practice with the team, but is taking a cautious approach.

“We’re close to getting him into some contact, then we’ll see how that goes,” he said. “Conditioning is important. You want to feel like he feels comfortable with the speed and the pace.”

Williams says he hopes to be back in the Tigers lineup within the next two weeks.
