GLENDALE, ARIZ. – A former member of the Medicine Hat Tigers has been released from his NHL contact.

The Arizona Coyotes announced Tuesday that they had terminated Emerson Etem’s contract. Etem, 25, was assigned to the Tuscon Roadrunners of the American Hockey League (AHL), and according to a news release from the Coyotes, he informed the organization he no longer wanted to play in the AHL.

In sixteen games with Tuscon, Etem scored four goals and recorded one assist.

Etem played for the Medicine Hat tigers from 2009-2012. He led all rookies in the WHL in scoring in 2009, and finished his WHL career with a total of 143 goals and 109 assists for 252 points.

In 2010, Etem was drafted in the first round, 29th overall by the Anaheim Ducks. Etem had several stints in the NHL with the Ducks, New York Rangers and the Vancouver Canucks, but has also spent multiple seasons with the Norfolk Admirals, the Ducks’ AHL affiliate.

The Coyotes signed Etem to a one-year deal in July.
