Government looking to expand dual credit programs across the province

Edmonton, AB – More highschool students across the province will have the opportunity to access dual credit programs before they go on to post secondary schools.

Alberta Education announced in May that $16.4 million in funding will be allocated to the dual credit program, which will allow school authorities to expand it. Dual credit programming allows students to get hands on training through workplace experience, while earning high school credits at the same time.

Now, the Ministry of Education announced the development of the Alberta Dual Credit Framework and the Dual Credit Implementation Guide. These will provide more support and guidance to schools so that the dual credit program can be offered across the province.

Education Minister David Eggen said in a statement that allowing students to gain experience in the workforce leads to increased high school completion rates. “In some instances, students have been able to complete post-secondary with less financial debt,” said Eggen.
