Bandits notch fifth straight win, beating Drumheller 5-2
BROOKS, AB – Conner Jean (Oakland, MI) had two goals and an assist, as the Brooks Bandits (13-4-1) recorded their fifth consecutive win on Saturday night, beating the visiting Drumheller Dragons (10-7-1) by a 5-2 score in front of an announced crowd of 1,307 at the Centennial Regional Arena.
The win gives the Bandits a six point lead over Drumheller for second place in the AJHL South, though the team remains 3 points back of first place Okotoks with the Oilers holding two games in hand.
Already short staffed when the home-and-home series began Friday night, the Dragons were down to just 9 regular forwards and 4 regular defencemen after losing leading scorer Jordan Taupert, forward Dawson Bruneski, and defenceman Josh Bishop for Saturday night’s game.
The Bandits ended up playing one of the team’s most dominant first periods of the entire season, outshooting the visitors 15-6 and converting twice; the first a Jean rebound goal at 7:25, and the second a power play backdoor tap in by Cale List (Petawawa, ON) at the 14:30 mark to make it a 2-0 game.
