SWIFT CURRENT, SK – A nightmare weekend of games continued on Saturday night for the Medicine Hat Tigers, shutout on the road at the hands of the Swift Current Broncos.

The night previous, the Tigers were destroyed at the Canalta Centre 9-1 by the Moose Jaw Warriors, a game in which starter Michael Bullion allowed nine goals on 23 shots against.

Just over four minutes into the contest, the Tigers went to the power play following a holding minor dealt to Swift Current’s Sahvan Khaira.

Despite being up a man, Medicine Hat allowed a Glenn Gawdin short-handed marker on a breakaway to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead.

Swift Current defender Artyom Minulin doubled the Broncos lead to 2-0 near the midway mark of the first, beating Jordan Hollett for his third of the season.

The Broncos potent offence continued to roll less than two minutes later, with Aleksi Heponiemi netting his 10th of the campaign to give Swift Current a 3-0 lead through 11 minutes of play.

Medicine Hat pressed in the first period outshooting the Broncos 18-11, but trailed 3-0 heading to the second period.

Hollett found his footing in the second with 12 saves, but allowed another short-handed goal from Gawdin with only 20 seconds left in the period to put Swift Current up 4-0.

The Tigers put 14 shots towards Broncos goaltender Logan Flodell in the third period, but the Saskatchewan product stood his ground to send Medicine Hat home with a 4-0 shutout win.

It was another rough night on the power play for the Tigers, going 0-for-6 against the Broncos and being shutout over their last 10 man advantages this weekend.

Meanwhile, Medicine Hat has also been outscored 13-1 over their recent games against Moose Jaw and Swift Current.

The Tigers had no answer for Swift Current’s top line of Gawdin, Heponiemi and Tyler Steenbergen, who combined for three goals and seven points.

Picking up his third loss of the season, Hollett allowed four goals on 37 shots against.

Dropping their record on the year to 8-6-0, the Tigers are now tied with the Red Deer Rebels for first place in the Central Division.

After facing two of Canada’s top junior teams in Moose Jaw and Swift Current, the Tigers return to the Canalta Centre on Friday night when they face another Saskatchewan club in the Saskatoon Blades.

Game time against Saskatoon is set for 7:30 pm on Friday.
