MEDICINE HAT, ALTA- Grieving friends and family will be able to say goodbye to James Hargrave next week.

Hargrave, a volunteer firefighter stationed out of Walsh, died in the line of duty while fighting fires south of Burstall, Sask. In the wake of his death, condolences have been rolling in from across Alberta.

His family issued a statement on Thursday, saying they were grateful for the love, support and kindness from their friends, neighbours, and community.

“James was a proud volunteer firefighter, rancher & steward of the land,” read the statement.
“But his love for his wife, children & family surpassed all else. Our hearts are broken at the sudden loss. Thank you for respecting our privacy at this very difficult time.”

A memorial for Hargrave will be held on Friday, October 27 at 1 p.m. at Holy Family Parish along Strachan Road in Medicine Hat.
