RED DEER, AB – The charge towards playoffs continued in Red Deer for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers soccer teams, looking to secure positioning against the Kings and Queens on Saturday.

Starting in the women’s game, the Rattlers were trying to improve on their third place standing in the South Division against Red Deer College.

Plenty of defensive play in the opening half, with both teams heading to the break scoreless and the Rattlers putting seven shots on net.

It took until the 78th minute for Medicine Hat to find the back of the net, as midfielder Shaelyn Holdaway scored to give the Rattlers a 1-0 lead.

Holdaway’s exceptional afternoon continued less than 10 minutes later, scoring her second of the match in the 86th minute to add some insurance and secure a 2-0 shutout win for Medicine Hat.

The Rattlers women’s record has now shot up to 5-1-2 on the season and have moved past the Olds College Broncos into second place in their division.

On the men’s side, the Rattlers were looking to add onto a rough season for the Kings, who have only won a single game this season.

Medicine Hat veteran Jared Ursulan made the most of his opportunities in the first half, opening up the scoring in the 39th minute to give the Rattlers a 1-0 lead before halftime.

That wasn’t the end of the afternoon for the fifth-year Rattler, as Ursulan added another marker to clinch a 2-0 win for the men’s team as well.

Improving to 4-2-1 on the year, the Rattlers still trail Lethbridge College by a single point for second place in the South Division.

The road trip keeps rolling on Sunday for both Rattlers teams, with Medicine Hat stopping by Lakeland College for a pair of games against the Rustlers.
