MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Tigers could have one of their forwards back in the lineup by the weekend.

Zach Fischer, who missed the opening weekend of the season with concussion-like symptoms, is back participating in full contact practice with the team, and could be back in the lineup for this weekend’s road trip.

“As long as (Fischer) shows really good in practice today and tomorrow, he should be good to go,” said head coach and general manager Shaun Clouston on Wednesday.

Fischer suffered the injury two weeks ago after taking a hit at Calgary Flames training camp. He’s been skating with the Tigers in a non-contact jersey for the last week-and-a-half.

“The last couple of days have gone well for me,” said Fischer. “I’m symptom-free, there’s just some tightness in my neck, but other than that, it’s been good.”

Fischer hopes to once again bring a physical role to the team if he returns to the lineup this weekend.

“I’m excited to get out there, play my first game of the year,” he said. “It’s going to be exciting to play with those guys again. I haven’t had the honour to do it yet, so I’m excited for that.”

Two other members of the Tigers on the injured list are getting closer to returning.

Goaltender Jordan Hollett has returned to practising full-time with the team after a bad case of mono earlier this month. He’s now listed as day-to-day.

Defenceman Kristians Rubins is also listed as day-to-day as he recovers from a shoulder injury.

Mason Shaw underwent surgery on Monday to repair a torn ACL, and will be out for up to six months to recover from the injury.

The Tigers return to action Friday night, travelling to Saskatoon to take on the Blades. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
