CALGARY, AB — Medicine Hat’s Jordan Taupert has been named the AJHL Player of the Week after a week of impressive play with the Drumheller Dragons.

The 19-year-old Hatter shook the twine three times on September 19 against Canmore — his first AJHL hat trick on route to a five-point performance in a 5-1 victory. On September 22, Taupert scored a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win over Spruce Grove, and closed the week with a pair of tallies in a 6-5 overtime loss to the Brooks Bandits on September 23.

A four-year AJHL vet, Taupert leads the Dragons with 10 points (6G, 4A) in five games, and sits tied for second in league scoring.

The AJHL Defensive Player of the Week goes to Brooks Bandits captain Dennis Cesana.

The second-year blue-liner collected two goals and six points in two games with the Bandits last week. Already a commit to Michigan State University, the 19-year-old notched four points in the Bandits 9-2 victory over the Calgary Mustangs on September 22. Cesana followed that performance up with a goal and a helper in his team’s 6-5 OT win in Drumheller on September 23.

Cesana leads all AJHL defenceman with six points this season. Last year, he was the second highest scoring blue-liner with 52 points in 59 games played.
