OLDS, AB – Back on the pitch for Medicine Hat College’s men’s and women’s soccer teams on Saturday, as they travelled to Olds for a double-header against the Broncos.

The opener saw the Rattlers women’s team try to keep their undefeated streak going, squaring off against a 1-1-1 Olds College squad.

Medicine Hat came out of the gate flying with a flurry of shots on goal, but Olds netminder Auslin Rae McDaniel-Perrin stood her ground to keep it a scoreless contest.

The Broncos broke the game open in the 16th minute, with midfielder Rachel Brodie tracking down a loose ball and beating Kassidy Suberlak to put Olds up 1-0.

It remained a one-goal game until early in the second half, with Brodie scoring her second of the game for the Broncos in the 51st minute to double the home side’s lead.

The Rattlers found some life in the dying minutes of regulation, with Meagan Clarke scoring her fourth goal in two games, but the Broncos held on to hand Medicine Hat their first loss of the season 2-1.

Medicine Hat outshot Olds by a wide margin at 21-13, with Suberlak making six saves and allowing a pair of goals.

Seeing their record drop to 2-1-1 on the season, the Rattlers are now tied with Olds for second place in the ACAC’s South Division.

In the men’s game that followed, the undefeated Rattlers were facing a Broncos team still searching for their first win of the year.

Saturday’s game was a defensive showdown through and through, with no scoring until late in the first half.

Medicine Hat’s Victor Cambeiro dribbled the ball into the box and scored his first of the season to give the Rattlers a 1-0 advantage before half-time.

From there, the Rattlers stymied the Olds attack with just one shot on goal allowed, with the visiting Medicine Hat squad picking up a 1-0 win.

It was a clean sheet for Rattlers goaltender Devin Simon, stopping all four shots he faced to help register the victory.

The Rattlers are now tied with the SAIT Trojans for first place in the South Division with a 3-0-1 record.

Action continues this weekend for the Rattlers soccer teams, with both squads suiting up on Sunday afternoon to battle SAIT at home.

The women’s game gets started at 12:00 pm, with the men taking to the pitch at 2:00 pm.
