MEDICINE HAT, ALTA -Candidates seeking municipal office in the Gas City will be debating at the start of next month.

The Medicine Hat Chamber of Commerce has confirmed their plan to hold three separate debates, with two being aimed at council candidates on October 3 and 4, and a third exclusively for the four mayoral candidates in the race on October 5.

The debates will be held in the theatre of Medicine Hat College. Each night, the doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the debates will kick off at 7 p.m., and run for two hours.

Entry is free of charge, and the chamber is hoping for a large turnout for each event.

However, not every candidate for council will be on the stage at the same time. The first night, 10 candidates will be speaking, with the next nine the following night. According to the chamber, this separation was done to ensure a workable debate format.

Attendees will not be able to ask questions of the candidates via microphones, but scrutineers from the chamber will be present to receive written questions from the audience.

CHAT TV will also be broadcasting debate between the four mayoral candidates on October 11, at 8 p.m. The broadcast will be available on television.
