Sherwood Park man arrested on child pornography charges

EDMONTON — A Sherwood Park man has been arrested and is facing child pornography charges following an investigation by the Internet Child Exploitation unit.

Adam Downing, 32, was arrested Tuesday after a search warrant was executed at a home in Sherwood Park, where a dayhome was operating. Downing has been charged with possession of child pornography and making child pornography available.

According to the news release, the suspect’s mother was operating the dayhome at the residence. There were no children present at the time, and families who used the dayhome were notified. There is currently no evidence any offences were committed against the children using the home.

ICE has been investigating the file since July after receiving a tip from U.S. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a social media user uploading child pornography.

Investigators also believe Downing may have worked as a camp counsellor with junior and senior high students at Camp Van-Es, located 40 kilometres southeast of Edmonton.
