HALO thankful for $100,000 donation

MEDICINE HAT, AB — HALO Rescue welcomed a $100,000 donation on Thursday.

Pembina Pipeline handed over a cheque for the rescue helicopter service.

The money will be split over the next three years, helping HALO, who relies on public donations.

One of Pembina’s plants is in the Empress area and it’s not always easy for an ambulance to access the area.

JD Gaetan, executive director with HALO said their crews focus on the golden hour, a critical time frame where a patient has the best chance of survival.

In many cases, they’re able to get to patients sooner than by ground.

“With the layout of the land in southern Alberta, there are times where patients to get in accidents where it’s inaccessible to ground ambulance or the transportation in a ground ambulance isn’t the best way to go,” Gaetan said. “So that’s where HALO can come in, get an ALS paramedic to a scene and transportation if necessary.”

Halo is celebrating 10 years of service this year.

Gaetan said this donation will go towards making sure the helicopter service stays in flight for years to come.
