MEDICINE HAT, AB — Back in 1997, Medicine Hat hosted it’s first installment of the Canadian Little League National Championship.

Lovell McDonnell Field, located in Strathcona Island Park, played host to the best major little league players at that time.

20 years later, the committee which brought the nation’s best to Medicine Hat in the 90’s has done it again.

The field glistens in green, the plates dusted off and the uniforms pressed.

Seven teams, representing all provinces across Canada, are ready to break in the 2017 Championship on Thursday. Come August 12, the winner will not only receive a wealth of gold medals, but also an invite to the 2017 Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, PA.

CHAT TV Sports caught up with tournament director Candice Henson to learn more about what goes into hosting such a prestigious event, and the excitement out of the seven squads as they begin their journey to a national title.
