THREE FORKS, MONTANA – The Medicine Hat K of C Knights are fighting for their playoff lives after a blowout loss against the Belgrade Bandits at the Montana State ‘A’ Tournament.

Medicine Hat found the scoresheet first on Friday afternoon following a Theryn Berndt ground out that brought Keon Vereschagin across the plate to make it a 1-0 lead in the first for the Knights.

The Bandits fought back in a big way in the first however, scoring seven runs against Knights starter Dylan Koenig.

Still down 7-1 in the third inning, the Knights allowed two more Belgrade runs off a triple and an error to fall behind by a 9-1 count.

Belgrade’s pitching was phenomenal on Friday, completely shutting down the Knights to just one hit and picking up a 9-1 victory.

Along with just the one hit, the Knights struggled defensively with seven errors charged against the Medicine Hat side.

Koenig was handed the loss and pulled after two-thirds of the first inning, with Ashtyn Street finishing out the rest of the game.

Vereschagin scored the lone run of the game for Medicine Hat, with Ethan Loran picking up the Knights’ only hit.

Now 1-1 at the tournament, the Knights face a familiar foe in the Lewistown Redbirds on Saturday morning in a must-win situation.

A win would put them in contention for a semi-final berth, while a loss would see their season come to an end.
