MEDICINE HAT, AB — The man charged in the death of a 19-year-old Brooks woman will go to trial next year.

Jessie Dyck will be tried by a judge and jury in Medicine Hat over three weeks. The 11-day trial will run from May 14-18, May 22-25 and May 31-June 1 at the Court of Queen’s Bench.

Dyck, 27,  is charged with one count of manslaughter in connection with the death of Tanya Campbell-Losier in February 2016.

The 19-year-old was found badly injured on February 19 at a residence in Brooks. She was taken to hospital, but died of her injuries two days later.

Dyck was originally charged with aggravated assault, but the charge was upgraded to manslaughter upon Campbell-Losier’s death.

The case was originally scheduled to go to trial in Brooks in May, but Dyck’s lawyer requested the trial be heard by a judge and jury, resulting in the move to Medicine Hat.

A preliminary hearing has already been held in Brooks, but details remain under a publication ban.

Dyck has pleaded not guilty to the charge.
