FORT McMURRAY, AB — It took all of 17 games to get there, but the Medicine Hat Mavericks are proudly sporting a record above .500.

Chris Caffrey went 4/5 at the plate with two RBI’s, winning pitcher Tanner Helms allowed just seven hits in seven innings, and the Mavs dominated the Fort McMurray Giants from start to finish, winning 11-5 to improve their record to 9-8 on Friday night.

The visiting squads offense came early and often in a game which awarded them the series victory. Medicine Hat broke a scoreless tie in the second inning with a two-run double from Rock Jordan with two out.

The Mavs tacked on hat tricks in the third and fourth before the Giants finally made headway with a pair of runs in the fourths bottom half.

On top of Caffrey’s stellar performance at the plate, Blake Rowlett snagged another two RBI’s in a match which increased his hit streak to 12 games. Rowlett, who’s back with the team after playing half of last season with Okotoks, leads all batters with a .419 average.

Arguably the hottest team in the entire WMBL, the Mavericks have won seven of the last eight and are now just 2.5 games back of Okotoks for the West Division lead.

A four-hour trip to Edmonton following Friday’s game for the Mavs, with a date with the Prospects set for 7:05 p.m. at Telus Field on Saturday.
