Firefighters lift South Saskatchewan River advisory

Jun 24, 2017 | 5:00 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A river advisory for the South Saskatchewan River has been lifted.

The advisory has been in place since June 2, and the Medicine Hat Fire Department lifted the advisory late Friday, citing the dropping flow rate and improved river conditions.

Despite the advisory being lifted, firefighters advise those using the river to exercise caution, as melting snow and floating debris can create risks for people on the river.

All watercraft users should inform people of where they’re going and when they plan to return, always wear life jackets and avoid using alcohol and other intoxicants.
