MEDICINE HAT, AB — Touted as having arguably the most offensive lineup in the WMBL, the Medicine Hat Mavericks gave more reason to believe that on Thursday night.

Blake Rowlett knocked in four RBI’s, Tanner Helms struck out six Dawgs in his first start of the season, and the Mavericks absolutely dominated Okotoks 18-7 at Athletic Park.

Medicine Hat’s 23 hits on the night improves their season total to 138 — the most in the WMBL.

Helms was red hot to start, fanning two Dawgs in the first inning before the Mavs tallied three runs in the bottom half.

Okotoks battled back with a pair of runs in the second, but any momentum was quickly shut down by Medicine Hat by tacking on another five in the bottom half.

The Mavericks continued the good times in the fourth inning, chalking up seven more runs to take a 16-4 lead before the game even crossed the midway mark.

Chris Caffrey, who joined the Mavericks earlier this week, knocked home four RBI’s on three hits, along with Caleb Longley running in the same on two hits.

Helms, who left his usual spot in the bullpen to make his first career WMBL start, gave up eight hits in five full innings before Barry Caine took over.

Medicine Hat improves their record to 3-7, while gaining redemption over a Dawgs team which handed them their first two losses of the season. The Mavs creep to five games back of the Edmonton Prospects and Lethbridge Bulls, who are tied for first in the West Division.

On the other end, Okotoks three-game winning streak is snapped to now hold a 7-3 record.

Medicine Hat and Okotoks wrap up their home-and-home with a date at Seaman Stadium on Friday. The Mavs next home game is on Saturday, hosting Yorkton in game one of a two game mini-series.
