MEDICINE HAT, AB — The provincial government was in a giving mood on Friday, handing out almost $200,000 in grants to three community organizations.

Medicine Hat MLA Bob Wanner was hopping around town, donating $85,000 to the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede on Friday. The money is going towards improvements to the outdoor patio behind the Carriage House in Pioneer Village.

Wanner also handed out a $75,000 donation to the Special Olympics Summer Games, which are being held in Medicine Hat from July 7 -9. The Medicine Hat Tennis Club also received a $15,739 grant for facility upgrades.

“It’s a privilege,” said Wanner. “I just represent folks here the best I can, and I make sure we get the funds for those kinds of activities. It’s really nice to see that the community is being recognized.”

The funds from the Tennis Club and Stampede were funded through the Community Facility Enhancement Grant offered by the province. The Special Olympics funding comes from the province’s Community Initiatives Program funding.
