CALGARY — The Calgary Humane Society has taken in 88 dogs which were seized from a home in Lethbridge last month.

More than 100 dogs were seized from the home on the city’s west side on March 24. The dogs were voluntarily surrended to the Alberta SPCA by the owner.

The dogs are mostly chihuahua or yorkie breeds, with some as young as eight weeks old.

According to a news release from the Calgary Humane Society, many of the dogs require extensive medical care, and are also very fearful and require extra support to remain comfortable in their new environment. Veterinarians and animal health staff are treating the dogs.

The Humane Society says the dogs will be available to adopt once they’ve received a clean bill of health.

According to Lethbridge News Now, the Lethbridge Animal Shelter is treating 12 of the dogs, who could be ready to adopt in two weeks.

Lethbridge Police have said a decision on charges will be made once they receive the final veterinary report.
