MEDICINE HAT, AB — Drive, determination and commitment. That’s what sets Janick LaCroix apart from the rest.

The 15-year-old boxer, who trains out of the Medicine Hat Boxing Club, is fast and tactical in the ring, and not many can keep up with him. He has only lost once in the 20 bouts so far in his career, and is undefeated in 2017.

His wins this year includes a Golden Gloves championship in Calgary this month.

“You’re not going to win them all, but he’s winning some big matches and some big tournaments,” said Kerry Fahlman with the Medicine Hat Boxing Club, who coaches LaCroix.

“This season, I’ve had a lot more fights, so I’ve had to be ready,” said Lacroix.

Fahlman adds LaCroix has been so dominant, he needs to travel to the United States for fair fights.

LaCroix lives for the sport, travelling three hours from his hometown in Ponteix, Sask. twice a week to train with his coach.

LaCroix will be travelling to Quebec City in April for the National Boxing Championships, with the goal of coming home with a with a Canadian Junior title.

“It’s a milestone to meet my goal,” he said. ”I’ve been putting in 100 per cent, so if I keep doing this, it should be good.”

“He’s very motivated, he’s dedicated,” said Fahlman, who describes Lacroix as very coachable. “He trains hard.

“We’ve got a couple of guys, Josh Hynes and him, are the two-hardest training kids in the gym. Janick wants to be the best.”

LaCroix has several more bouts ahead of nationals, including the Montana State Golden Gloves Championship.
