Opposition parties say NDP needs to be realistic with budget

EDMONTON, AB – Alberta’s opposition parties said it’s time the NDP government injects fiscal reality into budget deficits that have soared while oil revenues plunged.

They said future generations will pay the price for deficits being racked up to the tune of $10.8 billion in the current fiscal year and are looking for restraint in Thursday’s provincial budget.

Finance Minister Joe Ceci promised this week that the budget will “bend the curve” on spending, but he said it will maintain a commitment to front-line spending.

Ceci said it’s counterproductive to penalize families with service cuts while oil rebounds and Alberta gets back on its feet.
