MEDICINE HAT — The February job numbers have been released, and the outlook is better than expected for the region.

According to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada, the unemployment rate fell to 6.9 per cent, down 1.1 per cent from January.

The organization cautions against month-to-month comparisons in Medicine Hat, due to the small sample size.

Province-wide, the unemployment rate sits at 8.3 per cent, down from 8.8 per cent last month.

Across the country, more than 15,000 jobs were added, much higher than the 2,500 jobs economists were expecting.

The national unemployment rate fell to 6.6 per cent, down from 6.8 per cent in January, as fewer Canadians were looking for work.
