Medicine Hat AB, — The No. 2 ranked team in the nation will not be going to nationals. Both Medicine Hat College basketball teams bowed out in the ACAC semis Friday night as the men’s team lost their first game in 10 matches, falling 78-66 against Lethbridge.

Missed opportunities will haunt the men’s squad, who suffered just their second loss of 2017. The Rattlers cashed in only 10 times from the charity stripe despite going to the line 26 times.

Some bad boxing out toward the latter stages of the game proved costly as well, leading to the Kodiaks getting multiple opportunities on free throws of their own. Some of which they converted on.

The high powered MHC offense was kept in check throughout the contest. Averaging nearly 90 points a game heading into things, the Rattlers couldn’t penetrate Lethbridge’s zone defense all night.

Jordan Wynter was the most productive MHC player with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Four out of the five Rattler starters actually reached the double digit point plateau, but Robert Miles III and Cory Richardson combined for 43 while Grady Taylor chipped in 16 to lead the Lethbridge onslaught.

MHC will now play for a bronze medal against Red Deer College Saturday at 5 p.m. The Kodiaks take on SAIT in the gold medal game at 7:30.

Earlier over in Lethbridge at the women’s ACAC championship semi-final between MHC and St. Mary’s the Rattlers dropped a tough 63-51 decision. The Lightning outscored MHC 29-6 in the final quarter, pulling off a massive comeback in the process.

Megan Getz had a team-high 18 points for the Rattlers as Kennedy Werre pulled down 17 boards to go along with her 10 points for a double-double.

Montana Romeril of St. Mary’s set the game-high point mark with 24.

The ladies of MHC will play SAIT at 4:30 p.m. Saturday for bronze, while St. Mary’s meets Lethbridge in the gold medal game at 7.
