Provincial government announces carbon tax aid for non-profit groups

EDMONTON — The Alberta Government is launching a grant program to help non-profit agencies and volunteer groups offset the cost of the provincial carbon tax.

The Non-Profit Energy Efficiency Transition (NEET) Program was announced Friday. The $1 million grant will help the groups conduct energy-efficiency audits and prioritize where they can make changes to save money.

“This grant is another example of carbon levy revenues being meaningfully reinvested back into Alberta,” said Environment Minister Shannon Phillips in a statement.

“We are ensuring that non-profit and volunteer groups receive the tools and supports they need to lower costs, protect the environment and continue to do admirable work that improves the lives of Albertans.”

The program will also allow organizations to receive rebates and incentives for installing high-efficiency products.

More information about the program will be revealed in the coming weeks.
